An antique 18K Yellow Gold Hamsa Pendant with openwork filigree design throughout the hamsa from circa 1920s.
The Hamsa is a sign of protection against the evil eye and also symbolizes good fortune, blessings, power, and strength. The use of this amulet dates back to Mesopotamian times and ancient Morrocco and is a popular motif that is worn to this day.
This Hamsa has a donkey hallmark and was assayed in Morocco, the 'M' identifying the city of Marrakesh. '3' indicates a gold standard of 750/1000 (18ct.) This stamp was in use in 1925.
