A carved stone scarab pendant set in 14K Yellow Gold. This particular carved stone scarab is likely steatite, also known as soapstone with turquoise coloured tones and the underside of the scarab engraved with hieroglyphs.
The scarab (kheper) beetle was one of the most popular amulets in ancient Egypt because the insect was linked with the god Khepri and associated with the gods Atum and the sun god Re, who brought the sunrise over the horizon each day.
The motif refers variously to the ideas of existence, manifestation, development, growth, and effectiveness, and was a symbol of rebirth, regeneration, and protection in the afterlife and the earliest scarab amulets appeared in the First Intermediate Period (ca. 2124 B.C.). It is perfect for those that appreciate the history and mythology of Ancient Egypt and the symbolism of the scarab.
