A coveted "QU'HIER QUE DEMAIN" scalloped-border pendant in 18K solid gold, set with 3 synthetic rubies.
The text reads "qu'hier que demain," translating to "more than yesterday, less than tomorrow," from a famous poem penned by Rosemonde Gérard in 1889 for her husband. The pendant has a textured, brushed background with the text polished and raised, and a blank back surface, perfect for engraving initials or a date.
This piece is by Alphonse Augis, a French jeweller from Lyon, with the A.A. maker's mark legible on the front of the pendant, and the French eagle's head and Augis maker's mark visible on the hinge.
The first medals of this design were made from 1907; this one dates to around the 1960s–80s. It is in very good condition.
