A rare Georgian 10K Rose Gold Enamel Ouroboros Serpent Mourning Brooch from circa 1820s steeped in symbolism.
The ouroboros symbolises eternity and endless re-emergence. This piece is a wonderful example with black enamel scales, green eyes and a red mouth biting its own tail.
It borders a glass locket compartment with a deep purple fabric within that would have held a lock of hair inside.
