This is a lovely antique porcelain piece of the infamous cherub from The Sistine Madonna by Raphael that was converted into a pendant by adding an 18K yellow gold frame. The pendant features a cherub hand painted on porcelain with tousled curls and wings delicately spread behind him, his elbows resting on soft, plumy clouds. Legend has it that Raphael based the cherubs on two children that he saw looking into a baker's shop window!
The colours are delightful with psoft rose, brown and blue and the cherub's hair in dark blonde. The oval shaped porcelain is bezel framed delicately with the back left open to showcase the raw back with the number 39 visibly embossed on the surface.
