The background of the dog's head is of ivy leaves which is a symbol of everlasting life, devotion, fidelity and loyalty with a European cut diamond hanging off its collar. On the back of the horseshoe shaped locket are engravings of an inital "JV" and a date 24-6-924. Likely a commission piece, this is such a sweet and sentimental gesture for a loyal companion.
