The inscription “qu’hier que demain” translates to “More than yesterday, less than tomorrow,” a romantic line from a poem written in 1889 by Rosemonde Gérard for her husband.
The pendant features a softly textured background, with the lettering polished and raised for elegant contrast. The plus sign is set with a diamond, while the minus sign is accented with two baguette-cut synthetic rubies, adding both symbolism and visual interest. The reverse is smooth and ideal for engraving initials or a significant date.
Created by Alphonse Augis, the celebrated French jeweller from Lyon, this piece bears a clearly legible A.A maker’s mark on the front, along with 18K and A.A stamp on the bail. First produced in 1907, this example dates to the 1960-70s and had the bail replaced as the original was damaged.
